Chipping Show

On arrival on Friday evening, Margaret, Jo and I were rather concerned about the location that Volunteer in Brazil had been given to promote the work of our charity – sandwiched between two large marques – but on reflection┬á – we soon realised that it was an ideal position as everybody coming into the show would pass by our stall.

Saturday morning came and despite the changeable weather the show ground was soon full of people from all walks of life. The large banner, that was hot off the press, did exactly what it was intended to do and attracted passers by to what the charity is about. Although not intended as a fund raising event generous folk left donations and more than just a few inquired about volunteering.

Peter arrived with his tandem bicycle which was soon put to use in the promotion of the forthcoming cycle marathon, that will take place on Sunday 19th September. Sponsorship forms were handed out to those press ganged into undertaking the marathon and financial sponsors were gathered from those who felt that 26 miles on a bike was going to push them beyond the limit of their physical endurance.

Sweets attracted children and families to our stall which gave us an opportunity to tell the parents about what we do. Mary & David joined our merry team and the day coasted by with pleasant conversation and inter-action with friends and interested individuals.

By the end of the day we all felt that it had been a really worthwhile day
